About the Frederick A. Deluca Foundation

The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, Inc., is a private foundation created in 1998 by the late Fred

DeLuca, co-founder of the global Subway® restaurant chain. DeLuca understood the importance of helping others in their endeavors, as he was given help when starting his neighborhood restaurant business in Bridgeport, CT 50 years ago, with a $1,000 loan from a family friend. The Foundation supports charitable programs that empower people to lead healthy and productive lives. Under the broad umbrella of education, the Foundation focuses its giving in the following areas: Arts Outreach, Workforce Development, Youth Development, Community Health, and Medical Research.

Why Frederick A. Deluca Foundation Invests In HUF and its Programs

The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation’s giving priorities for workforce development and youth development is reflected in its support of HUF’s 2Gen approach. Intended to accelerate the pace of economic prosperity for working families in South Florida, the 2Gen approach serves the entire family. Uniquely, in addition to offering youth prevention education (avoiding drug use, violence, and pregnancy), youth learn important life skills and are connected to employment opportunities and financial capability services.
